Dr. Michael Rayel, author of Passing Strategies and Successful Preparation for the Psychiatry Oral Exam, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Faculty of Medicine, Discipline of Psychiatry
.
He
is currently the Chief of Psychiatry, Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital located in Canada.
In
addition to being certified in Advanced Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP), he is also a Diplomate of the American Board of
Psychiatry and Neurology with subspecialty certification in Forensic and Geriatric Psychiatry, and Psychosomatic Medicine.
As a lecturer,
seminar, and workshop leader, he has trained students, residents, and health care workers on various mental health issues
including psychiatric interview and presentation.
Dr.
Rayel’s oral exam books Successful Preparation for the Psychiatry Exam and Passing Strategies have been widely received and have helped hundreds of examinees deal with this hurdle. He is also the author of upcoming
book The Art of Empathy: Psychiatric Interview for Health Care Professionals
which will be available in 2008-9.
Moreover,
Dr. Rayel pioneered and conceptualized the CARE approach as a first aid methodology for mental health. In his book First Aid to Mental Illness (named Finalist, Reader’s Preference Choice Award 2002), he advances the implementation
of practical strategies and early intervention to deal with mental illness.
As one of
few psychiatrists in North America with expertise and training in both Geriatric and Forensic Psychiatry,
he has published pertinent literature and won significant awards for his work in this field.
Dr. Rayel
trained in General Psychiatry and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at New York Medical
College, Geriatric Psychiatry at New York
University Medical Center,
and Forensic and Correctional Psychiatry at Harvard Medical
School.
